Volt Power Analytics has analysed the effects of German battery capacity build out on solar pv capture prices in the Nordics given two scenarios towards 2035:
1️⃣ A moderate build out in batteries in Germany compared to solar pv growth
2️⃣ Stalled battery capacity development, with comparable solar pv growth as in scenario 1.
The impact on the profitability of solar PV in the Nordics is substantial, with capture prices falling by 5-35% and the occurrence of negative priced hours increasing by 10-35%. Similar effects on wind could be observed if the hydrogen sector fails to materialize towards 2050.
The results of this study illustrates how crucial it is to be able to easily carry out sensitivity analysis and run different scenarios when making long-term investment decisions.
