Nordic Hydro 2026: NO2 Hits a 26-Year Low

Four out of five Norwegian price areas are running below last year’s hydrological balance at this point in the season — and NO2 is in a league of its own.

NO2 Sets a 26-Year Record

At -11,300 GWh, NO2’s late-April hydrological deficit is the largest recorded in 26 years of NVE data.

Worse than 2011. Worse than 2010. Worse than 2003.

Deficits Across Southern Norway

NO3 and NO5 are also deeply negative, while NO1 remains in deficit but at more manageable levels.

NO4 is the sole bright spot, maintaining a modest surplus.

The Outlook

With snowmelt now the key variable, Southern and Western Norway face the tightest hydro margins seen in a generation.
