What got you started with Energy?
I got started with Energy through my study program at Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU), though I don’t remember why I chose it—which I put down to age 😆. What cemented my interest was internships at Rystad Energy and Point Carbon during my studies. I enjoyed the courses on energy, and especially a course in Energy Economics at ETH Zurich. At the time, I read the book Without Hot Air, about decarbonising the UK efficiently, which really appealed to me and was ideal case preparation for my first full-time job.
What interests you most about energy?
What interests me the most about this field is having to analyse problems—it’s intellectually stimulating, and even cleaning up datasets is sometimes satisfying for me. I like that power is an intersection between politics, physics, and industry, and every country has its own landscape and local markets, each with their own peculiarities. This is what makes it the most complex energy field.
How has your journey been with Volt?
I met Katinka first when Volt was just starting, and tried to hire her in my previous job. Of course, it ended up being the other way around. It’s very dynamic here—I code with Python and answer RFPs, go to E-world energy & water, talk to customers—and all this with minimal PowerPoint slides. It’s also been good to focus a bit on the Nordics, as opposed to global and European markets, though we’re expanding our focus this year.
